Five people, including three women, were killed and nearly 25 others injured when a private luxury bus fell down a gorge in Himachal Pradesh early Tuesday. The injured were rushed to a civil hospital in Anandpur Sahib in Punjab for treatment.

The accident took place near Garha Mora village inside Himachal territory on the hill state’s border with Punjab about 90 km from Chandigarh. The bus rolled down 100 feet into the gorge.

The bus belonging to Delhi-based Swagat Tour and Travel was mainly carrying honeymooners from the hill resort of Manali in Himachal Pradesh to New Delhi. The bus rolled down the hill as the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve.

‘We received five dead bodies and nearly 25 other injured patients,’ a doctor at the Anadpur Sahib hospital was quoted in the media. Nearby villagers rescued the accident victims before police and other agencies reached. Rescue operations were hampered due to darkness and fog in the area.

Three of the dead have been identified. They are Firdose of Gujarat, Minakshi Gupta of Jaipur and V. Victor of Surat.

This is a third major accident in Himachal in a span of 10 days in the state.
