75 percent voting in Himachal elections

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh recorded  75% voting in assembly elections polling to which concluded today. In the last 2007 assembly elections the state had recorded 71.61% voting.

Voting started with a dull note today morning despite a clear and sunny day throughout the state. The voter turnout was just 9% by 10 am which rose up to 30% by 12 noon and 58% by 4 pm.

Sirmaur district recorded the highest voting of 81.48% followed by Solan district at 80.34% where as Shimla district recorded 69.85% voting. Politically sensitive Kangra district which has the maximum number of 15 seats recorded 72.68% voting during the day.

Highest voter turnout was recorded in Nalagarh assembly at 94.8% where as Shimla urban had the lowest voting turnout with 58.77%.

Polling was by far peaceful in the state with clashes between BJP and Congress workers reported from Una and Chamba.

Shyam Saran Negi, 95, one of the oldest voter in Himachal Pradesh also cast his vote in Kalpa in Kinnaur district along with his wife. Negi had cast his vote in independent India’s first election in 1951.
