Shimla: Noted film actor Anupam Kher today launched a theatre workshop at Gaiety Theatre in order to promote local talent.
“It is like a dream fulfilled. This town has given me so much and is like a nursery of my acting career and now it’s time to pay back,” Kher said. The four week long theatre workshop will groom budding actors.
“My cherished dream is taking shape and this workshop will help local youth hone their skills and carve out a niche for themselves in the world of theatre,” he added. Anupam Kher said in the workshop, the students would be explained the fine points of theatre and learn stage acting.
“The workshop is dedicated to my esteemed father who had a great love for this hill town,” he said.
A play would also be produced at the end of the work shop which would be staged later in different parts of the country.
Kher said that he would try and organise International Theatre Festival in Shimla next year. Kher also called on Chief Secretary, S Roy and Deputy Commissioner, Arun Sharma and held detailed discussions about opening a theatre academy in Shimla.
Rakesh Kanwar, Director Art, Culture and Language Department which is organising the acting workshop said it would be an annual event now.
