Why Congress MLAs from Shimla district are silent on issues?

The winter session of Himachal Pradesh Assembly is on at Dharamshala and lot many questions have been put across to the government by our representatives. The questions listed in the four day proceedings can be accessed on the Himachal Vidhan Sabha website. A quick glance on the questions listed shows that Ghumarwin MLA Rajesh Dharmani (Congress) tops the list followed by GS Bali, Kuldeep Pathania and a few others in terms of questions being put forward to the government.

Firstly, a special mention of Rajesh Dharmani for taking up a matter of utmost importance concerning common people in notice of the government. Most of the electricity connections in the state are in the name of the people who are no longer alive. The electricity connections are non-transferable meaning the connection cannot be  transferred in the name of another living family member. This has become a big problem now as Himachal was fortunate enough to get electricity long time back but the connections are still in the name of our fore-fathers. Rajesh Dharmani has suitably taken up the issue with the government and certainly deserves congratulations.

One would have expected that representatives from Shimla district to be hyper active following a disastrous apple season and even more terrible conditions of the link and state roads including the national highway in the district. BJP members from the district are towing the party and government line pretending nothing has happened and have chosen to look the other way but silence of Congress members on this issue is not acceptable.

vidya stokesThough Rampur MLA Nand Lal has listed a few questions about his constituency and two-three questions from Subhash Manglet (Choupal) are also listed, all Congress MLAs are silent over the worst ever road conditions in the district.

It is hard to believe that these people are yet to see the plight of roads in their constituencies. What to speak of link roads, they could have seen the plight of NH22 from Charabra to Narkanda and beyond. After all Nand Lal and Madam Stokes frequently travel on this highway. What makes them turn a blind eye?

Apple season finished almost three months back but condition of the roads in the district has not improved a bit. The NH22 is in shambles beyond Matiana. Does this not even warrant a question from our representatives?

Once the snowfall occurs in a month’s time the NH will be closed. The alternate Luhri – Sunni road again is lying in utter neglect. The entire traffic to Shimla is diverted on this route making travel unsafe for the commuters. This road lies in the constituency of Madam Stokes and she has remained silent.

In fact she is so silent that she is not asking a single question during the current Assembly session.

I could not find any question listed from her side in the above mentioned Vidhan Sabha link. Please correct me if I am wrong or is there a tradition that CLP leaders do not ask questions in the assembly?

The silence of Congress leaders from the district seems to affirm that they covertly support the BJP.  If a newcomer MLA like Rajesh Dharmani can come up with so many issues concerning the common people why don’t these MLAs take up the issues of the public. Can’t they see and feel the conditions of roads in the district?

Anyway, it will end as a pleasure trip for the Congress representatives to Dharamshala bringing relief from cold here in the hills.

Tragedy of the people of Shimla district is that the ruling BJP never bothers to address their problems and the Congress does not bothers to take up issues on the appropriate forum. Dhumal and the BJP would be thanking the almighty for such bonhomie.

Only in Himachal..!!

PS: I would be eagerly watching the response of the government and the opposition for question number 2516 listed for today.

BJP govt is least bothered to repair NH 22 and the congress MLAs have turned a deaf ear towards the woes of the people as they are sure to be voted to power owing to mis-management in last apple season. General public has no option but to vote for ‘sanpnaath’ or ‘nagnaath’.

The Congress MLA’s are least concerned about the common man. They are indifferent to the problems faced by the residents of the state. They have never managed to corner the government on it’s failures whether inside the assembly or outside. They have merely resorted to attack on the government through newspapers & press releases. Even after the failure of the government on several key issues they have failed to mobilise the people. Their only dream seems to rely heavily on the anti-incumbency factor to bring them to power in the next legislative elections.

Problem lies with people of these areas. They still worship their representatives like Kings and surrenders immediately when leaders gain power. This is rather a psychological phenomenon. Unless people feel highly comfortable with their representatives and know their own importance in democracy the situation in this region cannot improve.
