Shimla: It was the hottest day of the season for the hill town as the temperature reached 32.4 degree Celsius on Thursday. The previous high recorded in the city was 31.7 degrees on May 20, 2004.

This year the summers have been harsh in Himachal as the average temperatures are shooting six to eight degrees above normal.

Mandi saw its hottest ever day in the month of May at 42.2 degrees, seven degrees above normal. Its previous highest was 42.1 degrees recorded on May 31, 1978. Dharamshala recorded a high of 38.2 degrees, Sundernagar was 41.3 degrees, Solan 36.5 degrees. Baddi was the hottest in the state with 45 degrees.

With high temperatures all across the state, life almost came to a standstill with people preferring staying indoors. Tourists too had a harried time with rising mercury all along the state.

Met office said a Western Disturbance was approaching the state and rains were likely to occur by the weekend bringing much needed relief from the high temperatures.
