Shimla: In an era of women’s reservation all around the BJP in Himachal on Monday decided to field a woman for the Rajya Sabha allotting ticket to Bimla Kashyap.
Bimla Kashyap has been a former President of State Mahila Morcha and presently is a member in the National Executive of the BJP women cell. Her candidature was approved when names like Radha Raman Shastri; a former speaker, Chander Mohan Thakur; chairman cooperative bank, Ashok Kapahtia; BJP spokesman and retired Lt General HS Kanwar were in the contention for the lone seat from Himachal.
As per sources Bimla Kashyap was not supported much by the local and state leadership but was supported by senior leader Sushma Swaraj in Delhi. Shanta Kumar was backing former Minister Radha Raman Shastri and Dhumal was supporting leaders like Chandra Mohan from Sirmaur and Ashok Kapatia from Shimla.
Names of state party incharge Satpal Jain from Chandigarh were also doing rounds but his candidature was opposed as being a outsiders by the state party leaders.
