In a major set back to both the ruling BJP and the Congress, infighting cost them dear in retaining their seats in Rohru and Jawali. While BJP wrested the Rohru seat from Congress which was earlier held by the Union Steel minister and five times Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh by a margin of over 6000 votes. The BJP in turn lost the Jawali assembly seat to Congress’s Sujan Singh Pathania owing to infighting among it’s ranks.
News of Manjeet Thakur as a Congress candidate has come as a blessing in disguise for KR Balnatah, the BJP candidate. Balnatah has fought election against Virbhadra Singh five times in the past and had lost each election. This is a last chance for Balnatah to become a MLA as Rohru seat has been made reserved from the next elections.
