Centre explores possibility to setting up steel plants in Himachal

New Delhi: The Union Steel Ministry has constituted a committee to examine inter-alia activities towards expanding the manufacturing base of steel products in Himachal Pradesh.

Central Minister of state for steel, A Sai Pratap in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha said today that a three member Committee has been set up comprising of representatives from SAIL, Government of Himachal Pradesh and Confederation of Indian Industry.

He said that Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) project is under execution of setting up a TMT Bar Mill at Kandrori in District Kangra with a capacity of 1,00, 000 tonnes per annum. The project is expected to be completed is by first quarter of 2012. The possibility of setting up an additional SPU in Himachal Pradesh is being explored.
