The CBI has filed a chargesheet against Ajay and Abhay Chautala, sons of former Haryana Chief Minister OP Chautala, in the disproportionate assets case. As per the chargesheet, Ajay Chautala owns a hotel in Manali, Himachal Pradesh worth Rs. 3.3 crores.

In a news report by TNN, the CBI has accused Ajay Chautala of amassing assets worth Rs. 27,74,74,260 of his known source of income during the period 1993-2006. His brother Abhay is also a joint owner in the Manali hotel as per the chargesheet. According to the agency, the values are only conservative estimates as they are based on the registered price. These may now cost several times over.

As per Himachal laws non Himachalis cannot buy land in Himachal. It has been long suspected that majority of the hotels in the state are owned by outsiders with land transaction done through dubious means. It is not clear if Chautalas were given permission to buy land in Himachal Pradesh or not.
