Eternal University student clash turns communal; Congress demands de-recognition

Shimla: Taking a serious note of recent violence in Badu Sahib Eternal University in Sirmaur district, the Himachal Pradesh Congress today demanded de-recognition of the varsity immediately.

Scared students of a community were forced to run away from their hostels to save their lives and forced to spend the night in the forest, state Congress chief Kaul Singh Thakur told reporters here.

The violence took place on the intervening night of October 14-15, he said. Thakur demanded action against varsity officials for their failure to maintain communal harmony.

The Eternal University saw a clash among students following ragging of junior students in the campus and later students from a particular community allegedly attacked the students in the hostel wielding swords and the other students had to spend the night in the nearby forest to save their lives.
