Shimla: Farmers are taking to the streets in Himachal Pradesh as a massive demonstration is being held at the Fruit and Vegetable market at Dhalli at the outskirt of Shimla to press their demands for exposing commission’s agents charging exorbitant commission and recovering other illegitimate charges from the farmers in the market.
Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, President of Himachal Kishan Sabha (HKS) said the protest is being organised to warn the authorities and commission agents to stop exploitation of innocent farmers.
He said a demand charter signed by farmers would be handed over to Secretary Agriculture Ram Subhag Singh after the protest.
The demand charter mention that use of unconventional substandard weighing equipment including electronic weighing system by the agents should not be allowed, besides other demands.
HKS also advocated the need to display latest information of vegetable and fruit prices in different markets through electronic display system and provisions of internet facility to farmers so that they could be aware of latest trends in the markets by accessing information before they decided to sell their crop in market.
