First phase of Allain Duhangan hydro project commissioned

Manali: Allain Duhangan Hydro Project Limited (ADHPL) announced the commissioning of the first phase of 192 MW hydro power project on the banks of river Allain near Manali in Himachal.

ADHPL is a subsidiary of Malana Power Company Limited (MPCL), a joint venture between Bhilwara Energy Limited (BEL) and Norway’s SN Power.

ADHPL is a run-of-the-river project on Allain and Duhangan river and once fully operational is designed to generate 820 million units annually. With this, the total installed capacity of the Bhilwara Group in hydro power has gone up to 300 MW. MPCL has an operational 86 MW project at Kullu which was commissioned in 2001.

Ravi Jhunjhunwala, chairman, LNJ Bhilwara Group said, "With this our journey into the critical power sector gets momentum and we are all set to rationalize our capabilities and create many more state-of-the-art hydro power projects which brings tremendous strength to our value chain."

The project also includes construction of 175 km high voltage transmission line for transmission of power to the national grid connection point located at Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh.

The project has been approved by UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) benefits.
