Forty IAS officers of Himachal Pradesh cadre are among over 1,000 IAS officers nationwide who failed to submit their Immovable Property Returns (IPR) to the government within the stipulated time frame this year.
According to a report by Press Trust of India (PTI) a total of 1,057 officers did not submit their IPRs for the year 2012. Officers from Uttar Pradesh topped the list with a record number of 147, 114 from Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories, 100 from Manipur-Tripura, 96 from Jammu and Kashmir and 88 from Madhya Pradesh cadre among others, according to Department of Personnel and Training data.
Forty IAS officers from Himachal Pradesh are also in the list while from neighboring Punjab and Haryana the figure stood at 48 and35 respectively. 9 officers from Uttrakhand are also in the list while Jammu & Kashmir topped in Northern India with 96 officers failing to submit the IPR.
As per service rules, all-India service officer is bound to file property returns of a year by January end of the following year, failing which promotion and empanelment to senior level postings may be denied.
The total sanctioned strength of IAS is 6,217, including 1,339 promotion posts. Of these, 4,737 officers are in position.
