Himachal asks central aid for chopper service in snowbound areas

Shimla: Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal demanded that Center should provide 75% subsidy for providing air services to people living in tribal areas on the pattern of North Eastern states.

Dhumal met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram at New Delhi and urged Centre to unburden the state by providing central assistance to continue the chopper service easing out state coffer by bearing expenses on the pattern of North Eastern states. He said for more than five months people in tribal region of state remained snowbound and chopper remained the only way of transportation for them.

He also asked the Union govt. to release financial assistance of Rs. 29.28 crore for setting up of 4th and 5th IRB Battalion in the state as committed earlier while sanctioning armed police battalion to the state.

He also requested a grant Rs. 10 crore in central assistance for strengthening Fire services infrastructure in the state.
