Shimla: In a shocking incident a Himachali girl hailing from Rohru and posted as commercial clerk in Danapur railway division (Patna) of East Central Railway was shot dead by a CRPF jawan when she refused to give him her phone number.
As per reports she was allegedly killed by CRPF trooper Jaswant Singh near Bahadurpur railway crossing on Wednesday evening. Police said he had been stalking her for the last few days.
The victim and another player Meenu were returning to her railway quarters from the stadium after practice when the incident occurred. Singh, believed to be in an inebriated state, intercepted Manisha and demanded her mobile number. When she refused, Singh first hit her on the face and then fired at her with his AK 47.
Police said soon after Manisha was shot, she was rushed to a nearby private clinic where doctors declared her brought dead. Singh later shot himself and was admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital.
Jaswant Singh was posted at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp at the Moinul Haq Stadium, where young women players have been practicing for the National Games beginning on February 12.
Manisha belonged to Chirgaon in Rohru tehsil of Himachal Pradesh and was appointed in the railways on sports quota. She had represented India in several international events and played kabaddi on the Railways team and had represented both Bihar and Himachal Pradesh.
Manisha’s father Yashpal Singh, who works in HRTC arrived in Patna to to take his daughter’s body to his native village.
Following the incident Bihar government has decided to ask the central forces to vacate its camp at Moinul Haque stadium and colleges in Bihar.
