In order to promote high end tourism in the state, Himachal government is seeking investments from luxury hotel chains and has invited major hotel groups for setting up luxury five-star hotels in the state.

As per reports few major hotel chains namely the Hilton, Marriot and Taj have responded to the offer. Infrastructure companies like ICC Holding and Jaypee Group are also keen to invest in the hotel industry.

Presently only the Oberoi Group is operating five star properties in the state at Shimla running The Cecil and The Mashobra Resort at the Wildflower Hall at Charabra.

Dr Arun Sharma, Tourism Director, Himachal Pradesh was quoted in the media, “It was an open offer to some of the leading groups. We are overwhelmed by their response. The state government will take the final decision on the proposals soon. The state needs to upgrade its tourism infrastructure and set up more five-star hotels.”
