Shimla: Speaking on the occasion of the 40th Foundation day function of Himachal Pradesh University at Shimla, the Chief Minister Prof Dhumal asked the university to take introspection to evaluate achievements and weaknesses over a period of four decades.
Prof Dhumal also underlined the need for preparation of a Vision Document for qualitative improvement in the university education besides the institution’s sustainable development.
He advised the university authorities to prepare a vision document and a road map of an action plan for the university in coming years so as to make it a role model for other universities.
He also underlined the need for an education policy which could be effective and practical with improved and global educational standards.
He said that in the age of cut throat competition the students have to be equipped with best of skills to match global standards.
He also laid a foundation stone of multi faculty building to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.90 crore and Tourism and Hotel Management Institute estimated to cost Rs. 5.10 crore.
Prof. SK.Gupta, Vice Chancellor, welcomed the Chief Minister and thanked him for the grant of Rs. 50 crore for current financial year which had eased the financial constraints considerably.
He said that the placement cell in the university would be strengthened and more vocational courses would be introduced.
Fourty years back, the Himachal Pradesh University was established on July 22, 1970 at Summer Hill at Shimla.
