Shimla: Himachal government on Thursday signed a MoU with Punjab government for construction of a ropeway connecting Anandpur Sahib in Punjab with Naina Devi shrine in Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh. The MoU was signed in the presence of Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal in Shimla today.
Dr. Arun Sharma, Director Tourism, Himachal and Dr. K.S. Sra, Director Tourism, Punjab signed the MoU on behalf of the respective governments.
The ropeway will be 3.75 km long out of which 3.74 km of the ropeway will fall in Himachal Pradesh. The ropeway will be built at a cost of Rs. 85 crore and will be built over three years time.
The ropeway is expected to ferry 70 lakh visitors every year between Anandpur Sahib and Naina Devi.
Speaking at the occasion Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal said it was due to the consistent pursuance of Prof. Dhumal that the project had reached implementation stage. He said the project was a bond of mutual and regional cooperation between the two states.
Himachal Chief Minister Prof Prem Kumar Dhumal in his speech welcomed Prakash Singh Badal to the state and thanked him for signing the MoU. Dhumal said Himachal would explore opportunity for similar joint venture to connect Kasauli with Chandigarh through ropeway in future.
The project would be executed on the public-private partnership model on build, operate, transfer basis and the cost of the project will be shared on 50:50 basis by Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
