Himachal to hike bus fares soon

In the wake of the Central Govt. increasing prices for petrol and diesel, Chief Minister Dhumal said Himachal is also contemplating raising bus fares in the state.

“There is no option but to increase the bus fare after the Centre hiking prices of petrol and diesel recently,” he told reporters in the assembly.

The state run HRTC (Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation) presently has a loss of Rs 512 crore and salary of the employees were provided only through special grant and loan from the state government, he said.

Asked how much the increase would be, he said the transport department is studying the situation.
