Himachal University violence spills over to city college

Shimla: Himachal University violence spilled over to a city college on Friday as SFI and ABVP activists of Kotshera college clashed in which five students were injured. The university campus though remained calm through the day.

Five students were arrested by the police, SP Shimla RM Sharma said. The clash took place at the Ambedkar Chowk in Chaura Maidan.

Out of the 57 students arrested yesterday in the HP university campus, all but 13 students belonging to SFI were released on bail. These students have been booked under non bailable charges for beating a university teacher and causing damage to the university property.

Members of the University Teachers Welfare Association staged protest in front of the vice-chancellor’s office against the attack on a teacher. The teacher’s association decided to wear black badges till those involved in the attack are not booked.

Heavy police bandobast was seen in the university campus with four police reserve battalions deployed to maintain order and peace.

Principal Secretary, Education, Shrikant Baldi, meanwhile urged the students to maintain calm failing which he warned the govt would cancel the SCA elections, if the violence continued.
