Himachal vegetable crop damaged due to heavy rains

Shimla: Expect shortage of vegetables in the coming days as heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh for the past four months have damaged vegetable production.

The cabbage crop is the worst affected which is primarily cultivated in Theog, Fagu and Matiyana areas of Shimla District. As per reports the heavy monsoon this year has damaged over 50% of the cabbage crop.

Cabbage production is expected to be just 25% than the normal production. The farmers fear that they will not be able to recover costs from the 25% production as the initial investment is more than that.

Experts say that due to heavy rains the crop production is 50% less and pea seeds have not been sown as yet. Due to the floods in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi, the crop production has been poor and the demand has soared up. Further heavy rains have resulted in crops being affected by mites.
