Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh University Executive Council skipped the crucial issue of raising the retirement age of university and college teachers from 60 years to 65 years as per UGC guidelines on Saturday.
The matter was not discussed at the meeting as the government has not taken any decision on the issue. The UGC and Union HRD ministry clearly told the states that financial assistance for implementation of revised scales would be subject to the condition that the UGC recommendations were implemented as a "composite package" including raising the retirement age to 65 years.
A large number of teachers, due to retire on June 30, were keenly awaiting the outcome of the meeting. The teachers, who retired last year, had filed a writ petition in the High Court and it was pending disposal.
