In a shameful incident, it took Himachal Police nearly two years to lodge a FIR of kidnapping in Nalagarh. The matter came into limelight when the mother of the kidnapped girl tried to immolate herself at the Superintendent of Police office in Baddi but was stopped by the policemen on duty.
Mamta, a 18 year old girl was allegedly kidnapped from her house in Kheda Chak village in Nalagarh in August 2008. After the incident there has been no news of the girl.
When the family approached the police, instead of lodging a FIR for kidnapping, it filed a missing person report.
Savitri Devi, mother of the kidnapped girl alleged the kidnapping was done at the behest of some influential people of the area and the police was protecting them. It has been a lonely battle for her as she moved pillar to post to get a FIR lodged by the police for the past two years.
Savitri Devi also met Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal during his recent visit to Baddi on Friday and narrated her story. It was only when she tried to immolate herself on Satuday, and the matter was highlighted by the media that the police finally woke up.
The incident is indeed shameful for the state police and shows how deeper the rot has set in. One really feels sorry for apathy of the police officials that she was forced to immolate herself the very next day she had met the chief minister.
Police officials should indeed be commended..!!
If it takes two years for our police to lodge a FIR, whether justice will be delivered and how fair would be the investigations remains a big question.
Why so, that an avergae Himachali has to wait for 2 years to even lodge a FIR? What kind of policing is this? What kind of governance is this?
