Justice denied for 7 years to another ragging victim in Himachal

Palampur: While Aman Kachroo case has been hogging the limelight and a fast track court is hearing the case on day to day basis, family of another ragging victim still awaits justice.

amit_thakur_ragging_death63Amit Thakur was alleged stabbed to death by his seniors at Shaheed Vikram Batra Degree College in 2003. However, the accused were granted bail by a local court and have been roaming free since then.

But now, Kachroo’s case has revived hopes of Amit’s family. They have appealed to the High Court to cancel the bail granted to his alleged killers.

"I demand justice from the government for my son. I want his killers to be punished," says Ravinder Singh, Amit’s father.

According to the lawyer of Amit Thakur’s family, the prosecution’s case is strong as there are enough eyewitnesses in the case.

Amit lay in hospital for several days after he, along with two of his friends were stabbed by five of their seniors. His mother says he had sent her this note before succumbing to injuries, imploring her to get him justice.

Aman Kachroo and Amit Thakur are both not alive to see justice delivered. But while there is hope of justice in Aman’s case, for Amit’s family the wait continues.
