Justice Kurian Joseph sworn in as Chief Justice of Himachal High Court

Justice Kurian Joseph was sworn in as Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court in a ceremony held at Raj Bhawan today.

Harinder Hira, officiating Chief Secretary read out the warrant of appointment of Justice Kurian Joseph as Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Born in November 1953, Justice Kurian is a graduate from the Kerala Law Academy, Thirunavanthapuram. He began his legal practice in 1979 and was designated as a Senior Advocate in 1996. Justice Joseph was appointed as Judge, High Court of Kerala in 2000. He also served as acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court for a brief period in 2009.

Later speaking to the media the new Chief Justice favoured setting up of a green bench of the Court in the hill state to deal with cases pertaining to ecology and environment.

Justice Kurian said he would explore the possibility of setting up of a green bench of the High Court in the state on the lines of the Kerala High Court.

The new Chief Justice also favoured Himachal High Court judges making public their assets.

Justice Joseph said he would see that no case should remain pending in the High Court for more than a year.
