Leh flash floods: 500 tourists stuck on Manali-Leh highway

Shimla: Following the flash floods triggered by cloudburst in Leh, a four km stretch on the Leh Manali highway has been washed away near the Tang la pass. As per reports approximately 500 tourists and more than 200 vehicles are stranded in different parts in Lahaul valley.

Officials said the road has been blocked at several places particularly between Pahanag and Lachulang.

District administration officials said It could take some time to open the road and stranded tourists wouldn’t be in a position to either move towards Leh or Keylong. He said special relief teams have been set up to look after the tourists.

Tourists on their way to Leh have been asked to return as it’s impossible for them to go ahead and most of the vehicles are returning back, the official said.

Traffic to Leh was stopped at Sarchu on Friday night as the weather conditions deteriorated.
