Leopard strays into Himachal capital

Shimla: Panic gripped the state capital today when news of a leopard being spotted at the Rani Jhansi Park (Ladies Park) adjoining the Mall spread in the town. The animal was later trapped by the wildlife wing.

The animal was tranquilised with the help of a cartridge-propelled rifle. As the leopard got hit by the tranquiliser shot, it ran towards the nearby houses where it became unconscious. The one year old leopard was later taken to National Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Tutikandi.

It is suspected the animal could have come from Jakhoo forest area which surrounds the city.
