Magnitude 4.8 earthquake in Rohru area of Himachal

Shimla: An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 on the Ritcher scale was recorded on Friday in Himachal Pradesh at 12.55 in the afternoon. earthquake

The quake has been confirmed by the US based USGS website which records earthquake hazards all over the world.

As per site the epic centre of the quake was 31.210°N, 77.871°E which lies in Rohru area of Shimla district and bordering areas of Uttrakhand.

An official statement on the quake is awaited.

Severe tremors were reported in Rohru town and entire hilly regions of Shimla district. Details of damages if any are awaited.

    The earth quake was confirmed by the Met office in Shimla. "An earthquake hit Himachal Pradesh at 12.55 p.m. The tremors were felt for a few seconds across the state. There is no report of any loss of life and damage to property,' meteorological office director Manmohan Singh said.

    'The epicentre was somewhere north of Shimla town,' he added.
