Shimla: Alarmed over the shooting prices of onion in the state, the state government today announced that National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) had agreed to supply onions to Himachal Pradesh on no profit, no loss basis.
Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today said that NAFED will supply onions directly from Maharashtra and other onion producing states at a fixed rate of Rs. 40 per kg. He said NAFED outlets had been directed to procure onions in Maharashtra and supply the same to the consuming states on immediate basis.
Dhumal said the state government had already made an appeal to the stockists and retailers to ensure availability of onion and other essential commodities to the consumers at reasonable prices. He said the department of Civil Supplies was conducting raids at places where complaints of hoarding were being received. He said that the stock available with stockists would be provided to consumers through open sale and no overcharging would be permitted.
