Shimla: A day after when hot weather conditions broke all records in Himachal Pradesh fresh snow in higher reaches and rains in mid hills on Friday brought the temperatures down by several notches in the state.
According to the Met office, high-altitude areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu received mild spell of snow during early morning whereas the mid hills received moderate rains. Keylong, the district headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti, received 5 cm of snowfall.
Shimla recorded a temperature of 28.1 degrees against Thursday’s high of 32.4 degrees Celsius.
Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded a maximum of 36.7 degrees, Dharamsala in Kangra district saw 35.6 degrees and Una town marked a high of 37.2 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in these towns on Thursday was 41.3 degrees, 38.2 degrees and 44.8 degrees Celsius respectively.
Following the fresh snowfall in higher reaches snow clearing work on Keylong –Leh and Keylong – Kaza has been hampered. As per reports Kunzum Pass on the Keylong – Kaza road was blocked and further passes on Keylong-Leh highway has also received fresh snowfalls thus delaying the road clearing operations. Traffic was also disrupted on the 13,000 ft high Rohtang Pass in the morning.
The Met department has forecast mainly dry weather in the state for Saturday.
