Road accidents claim 5 lives in Himachal, 23 injured

Shimla: Five people, including a couple, were killed in a road accident near Nerwa in Chopal region of Shimla district on Thursday evening.

According to the police the accident occurred when an Alto car (HPO3-1907), with six people on board, fell into a gorge near Nerwa at around 5.30 pm. The car was on the way to Nerwa from Chopal.

The dead have been identified as Sushma Sood and her husband Ramesh Sood, Madhusudan Sharma, Bal Mukand and car driver Rajesh. The only survivor Ishwar Singh has been referred to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla.

In another accident, 23 person were injured in a collision of a private bus and an oil tanker near Sundernagar in Mandi district. The bus was on it’s way from Bilaspur to Mandi when it collided with the tanker while overtaking another vehicle at high speed. The injured were admitted at Civil Hospital at Sundernagar while one injured was referred to IGMC at Shimla. The driver fled the accident scene after the accident, the police sources informed.
