Wasn’t that Kufri bypass supposed to be 1KM only and thats taking them 2 years to get it done now, since work started at earliest.
That is not just “A” National Highway, its importance is far greater than many other NH’s in the country,
The number of military personnel and equipment that go through it is huge and posts in between and on border that rely on this road is very significant, i will go ahead and say its a national security risk at this point, of some significant level.
As far as economic impact, well if the security is no concern how can the economics be, i guess.

The problem with this stretch of the highway is that it is maintained by the HPPWD where as the Kalka-Shimla stretch is maintained by the CPWD. The Manali – Chandigarh highway is also maintained by the CPWD. As you are well aware how well qualified the HPPWD is in maintaining and executing work, this is also one main reason why this road is always in shambles. Add to this a partisan govt, which has an subtle agenda of hatred for the people living beyond Dhalli tunnel, if this 1 km stretch lingers on for next 20 years, don’t be surprised!!
