Shimla: Heavy rains on Sunday and Monday brought more woes for the people in upper Shimla area as all major roads were reportedly blocked which hampered vehicular movement in the region.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded in Rohru and Chopal areas since Sunday evening due to massive landslides.
‘There are massive landslips between Jubbal and Rohru. The entire Chopal area is also cut off from the rest of the state,’ Superintendent of Police R.M. Sharma said.
He said both men and machines have been pressed into service to clear the roads.
Meanwhile, the apple growers are up in arms against the government for its failure to clear landslides.
‘Hundreds of apple-laden trucks are stranded due to blockade of the roads in Rohru, Chopal, Jubbal and Kotkhai areas,’ Sanjay Chauhan, an apple grower, said.
He said if the government failed to restore the routes, the apple crop would start rotting.
Met office in Shimla said it rained heavily in the upper area of Shimla Sunday but there was less precipitation Monday.
‘Isolated heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the state till Tuesday evening,’ said Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office.
