Shimla: Best panchayat in total sanitation campaign in Himachal Pradesh was awarded to Naura gram panchayat under Sulah block of Kangra district. The award constitutes a prize of Rs. 10 lakh.
A spokesman of the government said the award would be presented by the Chief Minister, Prof Prem Kumar Dhumal at the state level Independence day function.
He said that the awards under Total Sanitation Campaign at divisional level, district and block level has also been announced. An amount of Rs 1.47 crore would be disbursed in the shape of cash prize to the respective panchayats. At divisional level, the award money is Rs 5 lakh, while at district level, the cash prize is Rs 3 lakh. At block level, the Panchayat winning the award is being given Rs 1 lakh each.
At the divisional level, Bhari Pharnol panchayat in Hamirpur block under Mandi division, Mindhal panchayat of Pangi block under Kangra divison and Himri panchayat of Basantpur block falling under Shimla division would be conferred an award of Rs 5 lakh each.
District level winner gram panchayats are Dulchera of Bijhari block in Hampirpur district, Bakora of Jhanduta in Bilaspur district, Sagnam of Spiti block in Lahaul and Spiti district, Vashing of Kullu block in Kullu district, Doghi of Bangana block in Una district, Pukhri of Bhatiyat block in Chamba district, Bhont of Mashobra block in Shimla district, Baunal Kakog of Sangrah block in Sirmaur district, Namagya of Pooh block in Kinnaur district.
Panjehra of Nalagarh block and Sanan of Kunihar block in Solan district, Barswan of Balh block and Jai Devi of Sunder Nagar block of Mandi district, Gabli Dari of Dharamshala block and Ansoli of Kangra block in Kangra district , Samoli of Rohru block and Manubhavia in Chopal block of Shimla district have emerged as joint winners.
He said that this year, 1035 Gram Panchayats had staked their claim for awards in each category. He further said that the panchayats, which became open-defecation free and have provisions of solid waste disposal, waste water disposal, water harvesting projects, plantation and school sanitation would be eligible for the award.
Till date, 2792 Gram Panchayats out of 3243 Gram Panchayats have been declared open defecation free in the state, he added.
