Shimla airport shorter by 300 feet due to erosion

Shimla: The runway of the Shimla airport at Jubber Hatti has shrunk due to soil erosion, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said on Thursday. Its actual length has been reduced to 3,800 feet from 4,100 feet due to soil erosion, Dhumal said in a written statement in the state assembly.

Replying to a question raised by Rakesh Verma, Independent from Theog, Dhumal said Airports Authority of India has planned to undertake restoration work so that effective length of the runway could be restored to the original one. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee had also prepared a feasibility report in this regard, he added.

He said a sum of Rs 150 core will be required to restore the original length of the airport.
