Three days later Himachal CM yet to visit Chamba bus accident victims

Chamba: Following the tragic bus accident in Chamba in which 53 people lost their lives and 46 people were injured no senior minister including the Chief Minister have yet bothered to take time out of their busy schedule and visit the accident victims.

chamba bus accidentThe Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal remained busy in Solan district while Transport minister Mahindra Singh was busy in Shimla addressing newsmen and issued statement that RTO Chamba has been chargesheeted and would be suspended  pending inquiry.

Probably the mishap of such magnitude was not enough for the BJP ministers to wake up from the slumber and visit the accident victims. It seems the government ministers are scared as local MLA BK Chauhan was ruffled by the victim’s relatives and his vehicle was attacked by the angry mob at the accident site.  The police had to intervene and rescue him from the spot.

While Chauhan’s manhandling could be an angry reaction at the accident site but even three days later absence of the Chief Minister and his Transport Minister is baffling. The police can certainly give them protection while visiting the hospital.

It is not that their visit is customary but could have shown a humanitarian gesture of the ruling government who was directly responsible for this accident.

On one hand the Chief Minister does not leave any opportunity of a photo-op in Delhi or Jallandhar while collecting awards, complete apathy towards the suffering of the people of the state is unpardonable.

A leader should also have the guts to face the people in tougher times.

While our leaders now have the habit to see everything from the political prism, Chamba falls in the BJP domain and it would have prudent for the Chief Minister to ask his Transport Minister to camp there and oversee treatment of the injured at the hospitals.

The government’s role is not limited to just announcing the relief amount alone. A little bit of empathy could have gone a long way in providing healing touch to the accident victims.

This is a shameless government. If the death toll of such a large magnitude is not enough to move the hearts of our ministers and chief minister, then God save us. They say there should be no overcrowding in buses. No one likes to travel on roof tops and all passengers look for a vacant seat, but it is the poor frequency of buses which compel the public to overcrowding. Let them remain busy in collecting awards, but this is public aur ye sb jaanti hai.
