Tremors in Himachal as earthquake shakes North India

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh was rocked with tremors on early Saturday after an earthquake hit the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, the met office said.

The quake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit the region at 12.51 a.m.

However, there are no reports of any loss of life or damage to property in Himachal Pradesh.

“Mild tremors were felt in several parts of north India due to its proximity to Afghanistan,” meteorological office director Manmohan Singh said.

The temblor occurred in Afghanistan at a depth of 199.7 km. Its epicentre was 75 km south-southeast of Faizabad in Afghanistan and 115 km northwest of Chitral in Pakistan.
