Una: Following decision by Indian Railways to stop Delhi – Una – Nangal, Himachal Express from December 23 onwards due to fog in the region, people in Una area are up in arms against the railway’s decision.
Una Jan hit morcha today handed over a memorandum to the station master Una against the decision to stop Himachal Express from December 23rd to January 11, 2011. The morcha demanded immediate backtracking of the decision and threatened to stage dharna at the railway station on December 22nd.
Rajeev Bhanot, the spokesman of the morcha was quoted in the media saying it was shocking that despite long pleas made by the Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal and BJP Member parliament, Shanta Kumar, the Railway Ministry didn’t change its decision.
He said that Himachal Express leading to Una is the only broad-gauge rail line to Himachal Pradesh and in the garb of fog it was wrong to suspend its operations when it was badly needed during the winter season. He said that in no other parts of India and even World such a precedent had been adopted to stop rail services.
