Woman found murdered in Shimla hotel

Shimla: A woman tourist was found murdered in a Shimla hotel on Saturday who had arrived with a male companion earlier.

Superintendent of Police R.M. Sharma said a woman around 22-yeard-old was today found lying in a pool of blood in Rashik Hotel in Kaithu area of the city. As per the records of the hotel she had checked in with her companion yesterday at 3 p.m.

He said the police found the resume of the man from the crime scene, identifying him as Gaurav Verma, a student of the Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee. It was verified with the IIT authorities that Gaurav is a student with them and hails from Gonda in Uttar Pradesh.

The victim was yet to be identified. The woman was suspected to be murdered during the wee hours of Saturday. A knife and some broken cold drink bottles used in the crime were recovered from the room.
